Iron Hill Challenge

I've never raced before, and thinking about racing Iron Hill this weekend. The only bike I have is a singlespeed 29er. Is the course at Iron Hill suitable for riding a singlespeed 29er?

Yeah you can ride it single speed, reccomend a 32/20 set up. Fuzzies and few other of the small climbs are challenging. Front fork reccomended. Possum Rider

I agree with PR, you can do IH on anything, but some of the hills will be tough on a SS. And without front suspension the rocky trails will beat you up...................but its all fun. If that's what you've got, RIDE IT!

So I pre-rode the course yesterday evening…how well is it going to be marked for the race? Granted I was riding with a group who knew where they were going, but I hardly saw the pink markers. Seems like it would be easy to get lost (I actually did get lost hiking back to the lot after a mechanical sent me packing). Do they mark it better for race day?

Yeah Dusty, they tape off all the turns, and have course marshalls standing all around the course. it'll be pretty hard to get off course during the race.

What an awesome race yesterday. So much fun! The rain in the morning was giving me flashbacks to Granogue, but it stopped 15 minutes before the start of the beginner race. The trails were nasty, and yes…a bit rough for a fully rigid bike, but it was still a blast. And the following festivities were great too. Phil and I hung out with Deep Blue all afternoon. They're a fun bunch. Anybody else have any thoughts on the race?

My lower back was KILLING me about half way through the first lap of the race on Sunday. I thought it might have had something to do with my bike setup, which I altered slight before the race. But maybe it was just the course? Did anyone else have this problem?
