Rode Brandywine last night with C2C. Trails were surprisingly muddy. And then it rained a bit overnight. Stay clear of the river trail and other low trails. Pretty nasty.

The trails at Bwine were ridable this morning, but certain trails were EXTREMELY muddy still. The North River Trail was muddy, as could be expected. But in particular, steer clear of the trail that connects the top of Rocky Run (the "JCC Trail") to the top of the church climb at Mt Lebanon. It was DISGUSTING. Not sure I've ever seen it that muddy.

As a general suggestion - it would be helpful to some of us to actually view a map of the trails their access points and what they are called just like a trail map for ski resorts. Along those lines a difficulty rating would be useful too. I know this may be too much information for some and take away from the "just fiugure it out for yourself" mindset, but aimlessly riding around rock strewn woods isn't much fun IMO. Leave off the secret or mysto trails if that's a concern.

Yeah, that's in the works. I'm working to get my hands on all the necessary maps, etc. It's just taking a lot of time. And since I'm not really making any money selling ads on this site yet, it's hard to justify spending too much time developing the site further at the moment. Hopefully I can get them up there soon.

In the meantime, be sure to get together with one of the groups that ride Brandywine on a regular basis. There's a Monday evening ride every week from the hotels at 6pm. And I run a Saturday morning ride from the hotels each week at 9am. That's the best way to learn the trails anyway…at least in my opinion.

I did a bit more scouting things out on my own Saturday and must say that for now I'm not a fan of the "hotel trails" just too techincal for me not enough variety that I could see. Steep rocky narrow downhill or steep rocky narrow uphill. To each his/her own.

For the most part, all the trails at Brandywine are pretty technical. It's certainly nothing like White Clay. Lots of rocks, roots and hills. But there's a ton of fun to be had out there. Sounds like trails at Bwine are mostly dry, but there are still some deep muddy spots from all that rain a few days ago. So steer clear of the usual muddy/wet sections like the river trails, and the Eden Ridge trail.

I was hiking yesterday with my dogs at b-wine and it was a mud pit. I don't think I went on one trail that didn't have mud that was unavoidable. I had a hard enough time walking, let alone on my bike. Hopefully it will harden up over then next couple of days.

It's up in the hills above the bowl, just off of the Greenway near the river. Going north on the Greenway (with the bowl on your left), take the first right immediately after the bowl. Follow it all the way to the top and make a real hard right to keep climbing. It's not too far after you make that last right turn.

Same story today…trails were surprisingly frozen while from 9-11am, but spots in the sun were slimy. The later in the day it gets, the muddier the trails will become.

Brandywine is for the most part dry. It rode very nice last night (Wednesday). I thought there would be more riders out, but I guess the spring heatwave (87°)scared some people away. I'll be down on the trails either Saturday afternoon or Sunday morning. I hope tonights rain is light, so the trails are nice over the weekend. Friday, I'll head to Garrison's to look into my first 29er.
